Setup Instructions

Unpack the Printer

1. Unpack the printer, and remove the contents from the shipping carton.

To prevent personal injury, two persons are required to lift the printer during installation.

2. Remove the shipping tape from around the outside of the printer.

3. Locate the placement location with the necessary space around and above the printer.

4. Install the optional 550 Sheet Paper Feeder(s) if applicable.

5. Install the optional Duplex Unit if applicable.

6. Install the optional 500 Sheet Stacker Assembly if applicable.

Install the Print Cartridge

8. Open the Print Cartridge package. Be sure to limit its exposure to light.

9. Do not touch or hold the cartridge by the drum.

10. Gently shake the Print Cartridge from side to side using both hands to loosen up the toner.

11. Remove the shipping tape from the Print Cartridge, and discard the tape.

12. Open the Top Cover of the printer.

13. Insert the Print Cartridge drum by rotating it down and back into the printer.

14. Close the Top Cover of the printer.

Installing Printer Options

15. Install the optional internal Hard Drive if applicable.

16. Install the optional Memory DIMM(s) if applicable.

17. Install the optional Flash Memory if applicable.


Refer to Installing Flash Memory for additional information.

Load Paper Trays

18. Remove the paper trays, and top dust covers.

19. Insert supported media to the rear of the paper tray first.

20. Adjust front and side paper guides.

21. Do not over fill the paper trays.

22. Install paper tray dust cover(s), and install paper tray(s) in printer.

Choose a Printer Connection

23. A typical Ethernet Connection.

24. A typical USB Connection.

25. A typical Parallel Connection.

Power on the Printer

26. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and plug into power outlet.

27. Power on the printer.

28. Use the front panel to set up the printer as needed.

29. Select the appropriate panel language.

30. Install the printer drivers using the Installer and Utilities CD.

31. Attach the Quick Reference Guide Pouch to the side of the printer.
